Surname:
-------------------------

I will have to go into details, because the dates for births and marriages
are the only way to keep this family distinguished from the other McCarty
families. (you could skip to the part about the Jenkins if you want! I
am just establishing that the McCarty family doesn't give our direct connection,
but the Jenkins do!)

I don't know of any McCarty's in my line from St. Mary's county. James
MCCARTY from Fauquier/Fairfax, Virginia married Nancy BOSLEY / BOZELEY
possibly in Montgomery Co. Maryland. They lived in Virginia.

Children: (all born in VA)
Thomas MCCARTY b. 1755 married 1777 to Elizabeth WILLIAMS or ASHE?

Nancy MCCARTY b. 1760 married 1780 to James CROOK

Cornelius MCCARTY b.1766 married 12 Dec 1787 to Susannah (Sukey) HARDWICK

Betsey?? b. 1771??

After James died in abt. 1788 in VA, his widow, Nancy moved to KY to live
with her son Thomas in Fayette Co. and then to Hardin Co., which was later
called Meade Co.

Cornelius and Susannah also lived at Otter Creek in Meade Co. KY.

Children of Cornelius MCCARTY and Susannah HARDWICK:

Thomas MCCARTY b. 1788 married Nancy CREWS (I dont think this is your
Thomas -- I haven't found any children listed for them. He does have a
brother named James and John, but not John S. And, I don't know if any
McCartys moved to Illinois...some did go to Indiana. And I think James
may have died in MO.)

Margaret MCCARTY b. 1790 married 15 Jul 1811 to Samuel LANE

Aaron Hardridge MCCARTY b. 5 Apr 1792 married 11 Dec 1814 to Nancy BEAVER
or BEVER. (they were said to have had 10 children)

Enos Orear MCCARTY b. 1794 married 16 Jul 1819 to Artemisia DAWSON. (they
had 12 children!!)

Nancy MCCARTY b. 1796 married 13 Nov to Middleton DAWSON.

William T. MCCARTY b. 1799 married 13 Jul 1824 to Sophia BENTLEY. (This
is my line.)

Manasseh MCCARTY b. abt. 1800 married 1 Aug 1826 to Lydia WORTHINGTON.

James MCCARTY b. abt. 1802 married 25 Aug 1829 to Rebecca MURDOCK. Married
18 Jul 1837 to Lucinda BROWN. (I find conflicting dates for these marriages)

John Calvin MCCARTY b. 1806, died single before 1832.
Eleanor MCCARTY b. 1808 married 19 Sep 1833 to Richard MORE

Evaline MCCARTY b. 16 May 1810 married 19 Sep 1833 to William D. MURDOCK.

Now what is also interesting about my McCartys is that Cornelius and his
son William T. (& possibly others) moved to Indiana.

A daughter of William T. MCCARTY (see above) named Sarah Sophia Sallie
MCCARTY b. 4 Jul 1842 in Harrison Co. Indiana first married Benjamin P.
READER 10 Sep 1860. Second she married George Taylor JENKINS (b. 6 Apr
1839). They married on 30 Aug 1866 in Harrison Co. IN. (see his family
below)

Sorry, to go on so much, but I have to get to what I know about the Jenkins!
I dont know as much as I would like. I think I have found the connection,
though.

This is some of what I know of my JENKINS line:

Philip JENKINS married Jane ALLISON (I knew this from a family genealogy
book)
I found out on www.familysearch.org that the date is 27 May 1769 in Chester
or Philadelphia, PA.

I knew about their son:
John JENKINS married Sarah Quick SHACKLETT in 1788 in Fayette Co. PA. (These
are my gggg grandparents)

I found about Elizabeth, their daughter this site:

Elizabeth JENKINS Born: 1777 Fayette Co., Pennsylvania
and they say Philip her father is Philip, Sr., so I think there must have
been a brother named Philip Jr., too.

Then looked up more about Thomas L. McCarty and Elizabeth JENKINS and from
this site:

Basically the site has a McCarty (no first name) born Abt. 1762 in Maryland.
No name of wife.
The childrens names are those you said you knew:
Thomas L. MCCARTY b.1788 Maryland
James MCCARTY b. 1789 Maryland
John S. MCCARTY b. 1794 Maryland

and if you click on Thomas L. MCCARTY is shows his marriage to Elizabeth
JENKINS 1 Aug 1836 in Lawrence, Illinois. And there are 10 children listed!

So, I think that Elizabeth is my John JENKINS sister. and then you say
there was a brother named Samuel H.? That site shows a son of Elizabeth
and Thomas L. MCCARTY named Samuel H.

We must be related through the Jenkins. (and probably not as directly through
the McCarty family). I can get more information about the JENKINS when
I get my mothers copy of the genealogy book in my possession. What I have
written here is from parts of it that I have.

I know more about John JENKINS and Sarah Q. SHACKLETT:
Children:
Richard JENKINS b. 2 Dec 1836, married Mary M. KENNEDY.
(dont know if there are other children)(These are my ggg grandparents)

Richard and Mary had at least 5 sons:
George Taylor JENKINS b. 6 Apr 1839 married Sarah Sophia Sallie MCCARTY
of the McCarty family from VA (They are my gg grandparents)
Rollo Humphrey JENKINS
James W. JENKINS
Henry JENKINS
Dick JENKINS (I assume he was Richard, Jr.)
Alfred Ditto JENKINS

Going fartherGeorge T. and Sallies son was John Charles JENKINS b. 22
Jul 1872. He married Nettie BRADLEY on 15 May 1893. Their daughter, Ruby
Yvette, was my grandmother. She lived in Mt. Carmel, Illinois for many
years. I have some interesting photos of the Jenkins family, too. I believe
they were taken in Sulpher, IN. I am still trying to figure out who is
who. I will have to make them available for you to see somehow.

Tell me more cousin, of what you know about your ancestors and how you
are related to Thomas L. and Elizabeth (Jenkins) McCarty!
