Surname: MATTINGLY
-------------------------

Oh, there were many, many Mattingly's in St. Mary's and many of them did
not go to Kentucky. Thomas Mattingly, II had at least six sons: Thomas,
III, James, Charles, William, Luke, and Ignatius. Each of those sons had
anywhere from 4 to 6 sons and the lineage was growing at a rapid pace.
Some of the family of Cezar also stayed around St. Mary's although the
known ones seem to have moved over toward Washington and Allegany County
area. Then there were some over in Charles County also where, I believe,
the original Mattingly's Hope was located and likely where Cezar died.

The Catholic Church records may be a good starting place as most of the
family were Catholic (and most still are it appears) and their records
are among the best. Unfortunately, many of the records were destroyed due
to religious intolerance. I'll look around through some of the old books
I have for any record of a Susanna but I don't recall seeing another one.
I do recall that Thomas Mattingly, III did have a grand-daughter named
Susay (which was likely Susanna) by his son Leonard.
