Surname: Gardiner, Gardner, Garner
-------------------------

Hello, I have just come across some info that a Hugh Gardiner of Charles
Co. Md was the father of my Luke Gardner b 1776, m 1798 Frederick Co. Md
Hannah Powell. NO proof unfortunately for this statement.

As Hugh was not a name found in my Gardiner/Gardner lines I have never
looked at this name before. I now have found various references to a Hugh
Gardiner in Charles Co. Md in the 1770s. (Prerogative Ct Rec., Administrations
etc. all to 1777) He apparently was a merchant.

in 1774 he was security in a joint bond with Dr. WM Lander for 99 lbs etc.

in 1777, Mrs Eliz Corry released Hugh Gardiner from this bond etc.

I do not find anything on Hugh Gardner after 1777.
Gen John Dent and Capt John Parnham sent a letter to the MD Council of
Safety recommending Hugh Gardiner for his "being in the Mattross Service.
etc. (Rev War/ military service)

Appreciate anything anyone might give as to where Hugh may have died etc.
children etc.
Did he leave Charles Co. to escape the problems with the above bond? To
Frederick Co Md or VA or?

As there were numerous Gardiners in St. Mary's Co. I am also posting this
message to the St. Mary's query section.
Thanks.
Mary ann
