Francine and all,
Here's what I have on some of the Monicas and the other topics brought up
over the past two days.
The John Drury who died in 1797 was married to Ann Jarboe, not a Mary unless
Mary was his first wife. This marriage to Ann had to be a second or subsequent
marriage since his will mentions several married children and he and Ann were
only married a couple of years before he died. I have a transcript of the will
that I'll be happy to send privately if you want it. I am assuming he was born
sometime around 1760 but have no parents for him or any hard evidence of his
birth. His daughter Monica was mentioned in the Will as Monica Vessels, but I
can't tell you what his first name was.
The John Drury who married Susanna Heydon, as Pat will tell you, was married
in 1734 and was a son of the John Drury who died by 1724 and (most probably) his
first wife Rachel Payne. At the time of his death he was married to Mary Ford the
widow of Johathon Seale and she was the one who administered John's Estate after
his death.
Philip Drurys children were Bernard (b. 1771) who married Catharine Wimsatt
in 1796; Tecla (b 1772); an unknown male (b. btw 1773-1774); Samuel (b.
2/4/1775); Emerentia (b. 1777); Joan (b. 1779); 2 unknown males (b btw 1780 -
1790; John (b. btw 1790-1795). Some people think that the unknown male born in
1773 or 1774 was Zachariah Drury who married Jane Molohon in 1797 and moved to
Kentucky. It is possible but I have not seen anything to prove this thesis.
Others think it might be Ignatius Drury who married Mary Goldsborough in
1793, but this too is unproved and open to question. The attribution of Bernard
(b. 1740) and Ann as the parents of this Ignatius comes from a mention of this in
the notes of Father A. A. Aud as transcribed by Father Edwin Drury many years
later. I have not seen the originals if they still exist and this is the only
mention of a Bernard I know of in this time period.
The only thing in my mind that makes the idea of a Bernard possible is the
fact that Philip Drury named his first son Bernard and I have no definite parents
for Philip Drury. I have placed Philip as a son of Peter Drury because there is a
Philip Drury mentioned in Peter's Will in 1770. But if Philip was another son of
Bernard then it would make sense that he would name his first son after his
father.
Now to the children of Ignatius Drury and Anastasia French. You have the same
number as I do As you say, Dorothy married John "Jackie" Payne. Ignatius married
Debbie Thorne and I have 4 children listed for them. Charles Drury married 1st
Emily Thorne and had 2 children by her. He married 2nd Elizabeth Leach and this
couple had 9 children. Elizabeth Drury married Ignatius Jarboe. As you say Monica
Drury married Charles Warren, and the youngest Mary Helen or Mary Ellen married
William Hogan. I tend to go with Mary Ellen since she was referred to in Kentucky
Biographical Sketches Vol V p 249 by Perrin as Mary E. Drury and was known to
the family as Nellie.
Now Francine, a question for you. How did you arrive at the conclusion that
Mary Drury who married Leonard Knott was a daughter of Ignatius Drury and Mary
Goldsborough? I have their mention in Kentucky Biographical Sketches but nothing
more about them.
If you want more detail on some of these people most of them are mentioned
along with source notes on my Web Site mentioned earlier by Pat Obrist.
Regards to all,
Don
