Subject: [MDSTMARY-L] lookups

Dear list,
I live out of state, and really appreciate it when someone helps me out
by doing a lookup. I volunteered to do lookups for quite a few people
last month. There were some that I just sent emails back to, but there
were 27 people that I really went out of my way for. I drove 30 miles
round trip & paid to have copies made for them. I bought envelopes, &
paid for the postage. I never asked for repayment, even tho I spent
$64.32 for this kindness. I love genealogy, and feel good when I help
someone else out as I hope that someday someone will return my favor. I
am sorry to say, that out of the 27 people that I mailed off information
to, that only 2 people had the courtesy to email me and tell me that
they had received the packet and thanked me for my efforts. TWO, out of
27!!! Now, don't take me wrong, I didn't expect payment for this, I did
it out of the kindness of my heart, but I guess that I did expect a
simple thank you. You didn't waste time asking for my help when I
extended the offer, but you sure didn't take the time to say thanks
either! I hope that this hits home and that no one else is hurt by this
list's lack of manners! Come on researchers.. what is a little common
courtesy and a simple THANK YOU, I appreciate your help! It will
probably be a long time before I will offer my help. Thank you to the
two of you who did take the time to let me know that you received my
information. It was nice to hear that it helped you out a little bit
anyway. I've given this over 3 weeks now, so that I wasn't making a snap
judgement, but I can't bite my tongue any longer. Please don't treat
anyone else like you did me...it's a bad habit to get into!!
