Subject: [MDSTMARY-L] NINIAN BEALL & RUTH??????
Date: Tue, 4 Dec 2001 20:10:47 -0800
Hello List,
For the past week or so the BEALL list has been discussing RUTH the wife of NINIAN BEALL being a MOORE. Possibly the daughter of RICHARD MOORE and JANE POTTENGER?
I wanted to pass along the information that has been contributed regarding the RICHARD MOORE and JANE family. There is some very good information here.
And I would like to get the input of the people on this list.
Sincerely,
Shirley Middleton-Moller

The Georgia Bealls and Their Kinfolk
Ninian Beall married second, in 1668, RUTH MOORE, the daughter of RICHARD MOORE and wife JANE, a planter and barrister of St. Mary's County, Md.
In Maryland Archives, Vol. X, folio 367, RICHARD MOORE is stated to be a true and lawful attorney. JAMES MOORE, a brother of RUTH MOORE, in a deposition dated 16 August 1708 mentions Ninian Beall as his brother-in-law, (Liber P.C. #2, Chancery Records 1671 to 1712, Annapolis, Md.) Ruth Moore died between 1700 and 1704.

EARLY FAMILIES OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND VOL VI
Some Moore descendants believe it is possible that Ninian's wife was Ruth Moore, d/o James Moore, based on the following:
16 Aug 1708; Deposition of James Moore, age ca 62, that Charles Boteler, surveyor, and his brother Ninian Beale both went with the deponent to the same bounded tree of Scott's Lott (CCR PC.626)
Other Moore family histories suggest Ninian m Ruth Moore, d/o Richard Moore and Jane Foster. So far I have located no documentation proving that there was a Ruth in either Moore line or that Ruth, wife of Ninian Beall, was the mother of part or all of his children.

The following came from Fredric Z. Saunders @
>Sally stated:
>>Ninian's second wife was Ruth Polly Moore, daughter of Richard
>> Moore and Jane (Pottenger).
>>I believe Ninian and Ruth's daughter was Easter or
>>Ester or Hester Margery.

>Hi Sally,

>A couple comments. I doubt the listing of Ninian's wife as having
two given names "Ruth Polly." This seems to be a popular myth among
Internet gedcoms. All original records of which I am aware only show
her name as Ruth. I would also question if Ruth's surname is MOORE.
While it MAY be, the only evidence of which I am aware is that on 16
Aug. 1708 there was the deposition of "James MOORE, age ca. 62 that
Charles BOTELER, surveyor, and his brother Ninian BEALE both went with
the deponent to the same bounded Tree of *Stott's Lott.*" [Debbie
Hooper, *Abstracts of Chancery Court Records of Maryland 1669-1782,*
(Westminster, MD: Family Line Publications, 1996), 16, citing Liber

>The question is how James MOORE and Ninian BEALL are
"brothers"-[in-law], if that is how they are related, and not some
relation as step-brothers or half brothers. If brothers-in-law
possibilities include:
>Ninian's wife Ruth was a MOORE, and sister to James MOORE.
>James' wife Mary wass a BEALL, and sister to Ninian BEALL.
>Ruth and Mary were sisters, surname unknown.

>IF by the first way, and Ruth was a MOORE, I seriously doubt that
James and Ruth were children of Richard MOORE and wife Jane. The

>lists that in 1654 Jane, widow of Richard MOORE had her land to be
divided between her three sons Richard, Roger, and Timothy. There is
mention of 7 children, the implication being that the other 4 were
daughters. Since James MOORE in 1708 was about age 62 [born about
1746] he would have been about age 8 when the above was taking place.
Since James is not mentioned, it would appear he is NOT a son of
Richard and Jane. Even if Ninian's wife Ruth was a sister to James
MOORE, she would therefore also not be a child of Richard MOORE and
wife Jane.
