Well, I've about hit the wall on picking at his. But it appears Eleanor
Gough was a full generation too young to be the wife of any of the three
John Clark, John Basil Greenwell, or James Wheatley.
#1. Priscilla Heard father, William Heard.calls her Priscilla in the 18 Apr
1732 will abstract that I have--no married name--though he supplies the
married name for other daughters, including in this phrase "3 daus. Susanna,
Pricilla and Elioner and their hrs., to be pd. them at marriage or when they
go to housekeeping".
#2 The before mentioned 1764 naming of Eleanor Greenwell by James Gough.
#3. John Clark's 1 Aug 1758 accounting that gives his daughter Jane as 15
years old, meaning Eleanor Gough had to marry by 1743 at the latest--and
then Jane had to be a 7 month baby (grin).
Two generations of fathers who didn't know their daughters were married? Two
generations of children in 11 years? Not likely!
But, boy, are alternatives hard to come by! The very best I can do so far is
that Henry Greenwell's children may be a little too far apart to come from
one woman, but the data is scarce and the dates are estimates in any case,
i.e. not reliable.
Bye,
Norma
