List,
I remember Tom Jennings statement that once there is a question about the
Greenwells it goes on for a week. Let me get my question out before the week
is up.
In double checking my notes in comparison to the many recent Greenwell Family
messages, I noted I had a huge disconnect in the form of a Joshua Greenwell
and a Mary Manning: I will try to quickly explain:
a) Joshua Greenwell was a son of John Greenwell and Catherine Wiseman. He was
a brother to John Basil, John Wiseman, and John Babtist. He was born about
1725 and was willed 'Lands Shift' property in his father's will of 1741.
Betty Burgelin shows that Joshua was never married. A note from Tom Jennings
led me to believe he willed the property to his sisters before he died in
1750.
b) In 1988 I copied off the internet a long list of will abstracts done by
someone named 'Peg'. The listing contained one abstract dated 1750, will of
Joshua Greenwell wr 24 Feb 1750, pr 3 July 1750, wit: Ignatius Greenwell,
Mark Jarboe, Clement Medley-----wife Mary (Manning), Children James, John,
Joseph, Anne, Susana. ( Ref: Abstract of Wills, Annie Walker Burns).
c) I have several notes that Mary Manning was the first wife of Philip
Greenwell (son of Thomas Greenwell and Mary Medley).
Can someone make sense of this? Were there two Joshua Greenwells in this
period? Would they die about the same time? Could Mary Manning have been
married to both at one time or another? Does anyone have the will abstracted
above?. Why would he give his property to his sisters if he had a wife and
five children?
Warren
