Dear Norma and Judy,
Let me see if I've got all this straight:
1.) You're saying that Elizabeth Pattison (who I show as Elinor) married first
John Angell by whom she had Ann Angell (who married first William Duff).
Elizabeth/Elinor married second William Herbert Jr. by whom she had (among
others) Vitus Herbert.
In the next generation Ann Angell marries first William Duff. They have a
son, James Duff, who dies about 1750. James Duff marries Mary ______ and has
children Ann about 1735 or before and James in 1739. His wife Mary then marries
Thomas Drury in 1751.
If this is true, then who do you place as the mysterious Mary who married
James Duff ? You say there was no Mary born to William Herbert. You also rule
out Mary d/o Francis Herbert and Elizabeth. Who is your candidate ?
Comments:
Don
2.) In the Will of Ann Head of 1727 she mentions Elizabeth Herbert. Are you
saying that this is the wife of Francis Herbert?
3.) In the will of Cuthbert Sewell there is the following:
He mentions sisters Mary Green w/o Leonard Green, Priscilla Head, and
Elizabeth Herbert. Priscilla and Elizabeth are also mentioned as dughters in the
Will of Ann Head. He also mentions Father-in-Law Adam Head who I presume is the
h/o Ann Head.
Were the women he called sisters actually what we refer to as
sisters-in-law, or is there some other explanation of how Cuthbert SEWELL calls
Priscilla HEAD and Elizabeth HERBERT sisters?
4.) Do you have any idea who the Mary Harbutt was who is mentioned in the will
of John Godsgrace which you cite from Calvert County 1722? Do you think she is
Mary Herbert? If so, where does she fit into the Herbert clan?
