I am new to the list, but have been following, with interest, the discussion
about Anthony Brown and William Langham/Langhorn being brothers-in-law. I
am descended from Anthony Brown, through his son Nicholas. I am just
beginning to seriously research the Brown family in SMC, so I don't have any
great insights to impart on the subject, unfortunately, but I did want to
add my two cents' worth.

Much of the information I have is based on the book entitled "Barth-Hickey
Ancestry" by Dr. David B. Boles, pub. 1996. In it, he states that the
father of Anthony Brown would most likely be Richard Brown. He bases his
conclusions on "the multiple associations of Clark's Rest" with first,
Richard Brown and then, later, Anthony Brown, (Sr.). Support for the
author's hypothesis that Nicholas was a son of Anthony can be found in the
2002 corrections to the book, provided by the author.

In regard to the brother-in-law dilemma of Anthony Brown and William
Langham/Langhorn, I can see three possibilities for the relationship. I am
working on this exact same kind of brother-in-law relationship, as mentioned
in a will, in a completely different locality, and have yet to resolve that
one satisfactorily either! Here are my proposals: 1) William's wife could be
Anthony's sister 2) Anthony's wife could be William's sister 3) the two
wives could be sisters, maiden surname unknown.

I acknowledge that there could be additional possibilities, such as the two
men being half or step-brothers; as yet, a relationship such as that in the
Brown family, at least, is unknown to me.

My information shows Anthony Brown to have been born ca. 1679. The will of
William Langham in question is dated 2 October, 1717, I believe.

I just don't know at this point. When, and if I ever get all of this
figured
out, I think I should be nominated for a Nobel prize. Not sure which
category
though.
