I have a little to add:
Alexander Mantana Burroughs, b. 1818 and d. 7/8/1881 (son of William "Billy"
Burroughs and Eleanor Cawood) m. Jane Ann Elizabeth Knight, b. 1834 and d.
3/1/1911 (dau. of Henry B. Knight and Henrietta Tennison) on 1/22/1850.
Their children:
1. Etta E., b. 1851 and d. 7/21/1936.
2. Lavonia, b. 1/1852; living 1920.
3. Mary Adelphia "Delphia", b. 9/1852; living 1920.
4. Anna Appalonia, b. 1853 and d. 5/1877 (buried 5/4/1877 at Christ Church,
Chaptico) m. Randolph T. C. Swann, 9/30/1873.
5. Benjamin Webster, b. 3/13/1858 and d. 8/25/1931 (buried at Christ
Church, Chaptico). He m. Effie E. Barber, 11/27/1883.
6. Mason Douglas, b. 1860 and d. 2/2/1916 at Mason Springs in Charles Co.
He's buried at St. Mary's RCC in Charles Co. He married Adeline D. "Addie"
Posey, 5/15/1885.
7. Alexander, b. 1862; living 1887.
8. Henrietta "Etta", b. 1864; living 1880. (Could this be the confusion?).
See #1. Why would they call two children Etta?
9. Joseph L., b. 5/1876 and d. 1/31/1948 (buried at St. Joseph's RCC). He
m. Ann Dove Swann, 11/23/1910.

Hi:
I believe Alexander wed Elizabeth M. Knight on January 22, 1850
(Marriages & Death in St. Marys Co., Md. 1634-1900 by Mgt. K. Fresco p44)
Her name may be Jane A. Elizabeth Knight as she is listed as age 16, born
in Va. and lives with A.M. Burroughs (he age 32) in 1850 census, on
10/29/1850 in 5th district #1455/1402
In 1860 she is listed as Elizabeth age 23
A. M. Burroughs is age 40
Adelphia was 8
Anna A. was 10
Webster was 10
Lavonia 4
Henritte Knight, lady was 60
***
Douglas was Mason Douglas Burroughs and he died at age 49 on2/2/1916 in
Charles Co.
Obit says survied by brother B. Webster Borroughs & 3 sisters (unnamed)
plus wife and children.
I have seen some messed up ages in the census but this might earn a blue
ribbon!!
