Linda
I have the same question, but a sister or sister in law would be a good
guess.
Tom Jennings would know more than I.

I really think the Elkanah Edwards who died before 1856 was married first
Dec 19 1801 to Elizabeth Chappelear dau of James Henry Chapplear, because
in Nov 25th 1822 Elkanah signs for $500 for 'my son Thomas' received from
the
estate of John Chappelear . This notation is on the same page and embedded
within other 1822 receipts to: James Riley's children of Winchester, Va;
Mrs
Mary Harrison, and the children of Elizabeth Tyser.
These were all descendants of James Henry Chappelear. Even though Nathan
Chappelear's will extract of 1807 states otherwise(a transcription error?),
there is no reason for Elkanah's son Thomas to be receiving money in 1822
from John Chappelears estate other than that Thomas must have been of
Chappelear blood. Elkanah didn't marry Mary Chappelear dau of Benjamin F
Chappelear until June 21, 1825 and James Henry Chappelear calls Thomas
Edwards his grandson in his will of 1808.
