Hey Guys
Thought we would share a letter that is part of the manuscript, MS 492 James
Jarboe Papers.
This 1812 letter is address to Capt. James Jarboe of Great Mills, Md from
un-doubtly, a very close Friend, George Coleman.
Please note that this was transcribe from a photo copy of the original and I
was not able

Wood Lawn June 13th 1812
Dear Friend
I should have written to your before this, but soon after my return from
St. Mary [s], I left my Father's with the intention of courting the Maries
and the Graces, the place upon which I have determined for so doing, is at
the school of Thomas B. Coleman
In the County of Caroline, 20 miles to the south of Fredrick's burgs, and
about 7 from Bowling Green.
And which cause I also allege for my non performance of the promise, I
made the Ladies Wife and Ann Maria Hopewell & Wm Reliecks.
If you ^ have not or yet made choice of some devine Delivery
with whom you intend to spend the remand of your life, I will bray you
acquainted with one, (If you will take the trouble to come to Caroline) with
whom ^ you may spend long days of ease, & nights of pleasure: for your
further satisfaction I think it will be as well to describe to her to you as
near as posible, which, I shall endeavor to do in the sequel.
[pg.2]
Her's is the most attractive form that ever charmed the World of Love
In her person, which is tall and majestic, there is every thing you can
conceive of elegance & exquisite shape.
Her fine soft blue eyes resemble the bright - - - -of an unclouded sky
while the bow of heaven scarcely equal the arches of her silken eye brows.
The luster of her polished forehead, might will serve for a mirror and the
sweet serenity of her aspect is a fair indication of the Heaven within.
The roses and lilies seem to vie for pre-un------ in her lovely checks,
and as if blushing to be out done, give her the sweetest bloom of the
opening spring.
Her ruby lips are the prettiest ---- in nature, and look like rose
bud's just beginning to bloom, through which, when opened by a smile that
Venus might may, appears t---- rows of teeth even as new shore beaches and
whiter than the driven snow.
The gates form the garden of spices are not sweeter than the breath which
passes through..
About her mouth, which a grace, or sweet enchanting some thin, approaching
to a smile which a little fluttering Cupid just lighten upon you,
and after chewing a dimple disappears.
Her neck is a column of polished ivory, formed by the hand of harmony
itself, and supported by a breast of the purest alabaster.
[pg.3]
Her fine curls full ---- luxurious, flow with an enchanting elegance down
her well turned forehead, and when ruffled by the ------ breathes are seen
to play about in all the ------[fluxing ?] of content.
I think I will come to -----
before I wary you patience (if I have no already, by desiring you love my
love to all those sweet ------- of my acquaints and likewise ------- be me
to Uncle C. ------- and be sent of the gentle of ------
I remain your affection Friend & accp-----

After reading this thing the first time, I found myself laughing out-loud
and thinking, "Damn."...............
"This is one-hell-of-a-woman". "My wife then committed, I think George is a
little strange".
But she too lost it after reading about "Her neck is a column of polished
ivory"
Ya like that Parran?
happy days,
