This is why these cases will just drive you nuts. Without the specifics,
you most often cannot identify the participants.
Here's the will of Zachariah Mattingly (of Luke):
Will of Zachariah Mattingly (of Luke), SMC, 3/16/1826-4/25/1826 (JF #1, fol.
160). First having a view to the disposal and distribution of my property
heretofore made by me, to wit in the year of 1823 among my three children,
as follows: Clement Mattingly, Thomas Mattingly, and Julia Ann Miles, the
wife of Henry Miles. The said division made to them is to be kept in their
possession as distributed at that time. At that time there were also a
number of debts I owed which could not be ascertained. Each of them, Thomas
Mattingly, the heirs of Clement Mattingly, and Henry Miles, is to pay an
equal share of these debts once they are ascertained before they will have a
clear and legal title to the property I gave to them.
Son: Thomas Mattingly, the land where he now lives called "Shercliffe's" and
"Rome" including the mill seat and a small piece of woodland that I bought
from Eleanor Bailey and Bennet Saxton called "Part of Joshua's Plains" and
"Addition to Joshua's Plains" containing about 13 1/2 acres and a note in
hand, now in suit, drawn by Josiah Turner or some of the Turners in favor of
Samuel Jameson of Charles County and assigned to me.
Executor: Son, Thomas Mattingly
Witnesses: Charles Morgan, Ignatius Morgan, Nathaniel Knott, George Morgan
