Hi Judith! This info. is all wrong. I don't have my Cissell files with me,
but this is NOT the John Baptist Cissell who moved to Kentucky. At least,
the one who married Rebecca ______ never moved to Kentucky. The one who
married Ann ______ may have--they were different people. News and pictures
at 11. John D.

Good Morning Linda and LIst.

I hope you can help me identify the parents of John Baptist Cissell bc 1740
SMCM.

He m/1 REBECCA SMCM and had children Thomas 1762, Ann 1766, William 1767,
and Jeremiah 1773 all in SMCM.(O'Rourke, Beitzell)
He m/2 ANN and had Mary, Sarah, Henry B., Augustine Ethelbert,
Matthew,Robert, Zachariah, Sylvester.

Below is all the data I have found to date that MAY pertain to him.
--------------------------
CATHOLIC FAMILIES OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND, Timothy J. O'Rourke, 1985,
Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., Baltimore, p. 1 "John Baptist Sisel" a
contributer to the relief of the "victims" of the Boston fire May 6, 1760.
From one of two Catholic Congregations of St. Mary's County, Maryland who
contributed.

CISSELL, John . This name appeared three times as a private, St. Mary's
County Militia, 1777 (Ref: M-210, M-211, M 212, which listed the name as
"John Cissill". <snip> One "John Cissell" settled on Hardin's Creek in now
Washington County, Kentucky, by 1786 (Ref: MK-27. <snip>.

Willow Bend Books, Westminster, Maryland, p. 75
====
page 75 Jourdan continues and quotes "Baptist Cissel settled on the east
side of Hardin's Creek....There Philemon Waters found him shortly after his
arrival in the month of July or August and in the year of 1786."
----------------------------------
In 1787, a new arrival "saw Baptist Cissell on the east side of the creek
with his family" (Pioneer History of Washington Co., Ky)"

I am speculating that he may be the son of John Cissell d bef Nov 28 1744
SMCM and Sarah Vanreshwick his wife.

MARYLAND PROBATE RECORDS, PREROGATIVE COURT ABSTRACTS, 1744-1750, Skinner, p

John Cissell 21.133 A SM L90.1.6 L95.18.2 Nov 28
1744
Sureties: James Brown Samuel Able (son of John Able).
Payments to: John Able, Jr., Mr. Philip Key, Mr. William Cartwright.
Distribution to: widow (unnamed), 1/3). Residue to (orphans): Thomas
Cissell, John Cissell, Mary Ann Cissell.
Administratrix: Sarah Cissell.

Sarah is listed in this Rent roll record along with her children and their
birthdates which are compatible with John Baptist Cissell being her son
John:

MARYLAND RECORDS, Colonial Revolutionary County Church, Vol II, Gaius Marcus
Brumbaugh, Reprint 1993, Genealogical Publishing Co., Baltimore, MD p. 65
"State of his Lordships Manor of Beaverdam in St. Mary's County, March,
1768."
40. (A) March 25, 1744: (B) Sarah "Cecell" (C) 95 1/2; (D) Sarah "Secill";
(E) 0-10-0: (F) 2-0-0: (L) John "Cefsell", Thomas "Cefsell" & Ann
"Cefsell"; (M) John 29, Thomas 30, Ann 27.

I would appreciate any thing that would prove or disprove this theory.
Thanks Judith Burger
