List,
I have been running into Loyalist Philip Key a fair amount recently. His case
is interesting. A loose sketch of his activity is he leaves for the mother
country, returns and is elected a congressional representative. Party
opposition leaders lead a fight to have his election declared ineligible,
because he was a loyalist. My understanding is that his self defense was a
high mark in debate at that time. Key indicates Marylanders forgave him
siting his very election as proof of that forgiveness.
There were American Colonial Agents, "agents of confiscated property,"
appointed to handle the transfer of Loyalist property. Going from memory,
Zachariah Bond may have been one of these agents. There has to be list of
those agents and fairly clear court records of the transition of that
property. If any comes across that i would be grateful to see it posted.
