As some of you may or may not know JOHN BOONE OF THE CLIFFS, IN CALVERT CO., MD., is my ancestor.
I will be honest with you, I have never bought the idea that JOHN BOONE OF THE CLIFFS is a descendant of ANDREW BOHUN, OF DIPFORD.

I have been doing some research for the Boone Society that is totally unrelated to JOHN BOONE OF THE CLIFFS, and thru this research I came upon some information that only cemented my belief that JOHN BOONE OF THE CLIFFS, IN CALVERT CO., MD is NOT a DESCENDANT OF ANDREW BOHUN OF DIPFORD. At least not in the descendancy chart that we now except as "truth". I have always felt that this was not the family he descended from, at least not from this particular branch.

BERK'S DESCENDANTS OF ANDREW BOHUN of DIPFORD and THE GENEALOGICAL HISTORY OF OUR ANCESTORS BY WILLIAM KENNETH RUTHERFORD AND ANNA CLAY [ZIMMERMAN] RUTHERFORD are the researchers that put out the information I've seen on JOHN BOONE OF THE CLIFFS, being a descendant of ANDREW BOHUN. All the "excepted" info on this line has come from them.

ACCORDING TO RUTHERFORD'S INFORMATION:
JOHN BOONE OF COUNTY SOMERSET, ENGLAND

JOHN6 BOONE [ROBERT5, WILLIAM4,WILLIAM3 BOHUN, ANDREW2 BOONE, ANDREW1 BOHUN [BOONE]]. JOHN married ALICE WHEELER:

SONS: 1. ROBERT
SONS: THOMAS OF MT. BOONE
JOHN, MARRIED MARY HANDLEY THEIR ISSUE:
SON: JOHN BOONE OF THE CLIFFS, CALVERT CO., MD
2. CHRISTOPHER
SON: CHRISTOPHER OF LEE PLACE
[LEFT LEGACY TO "COUSIN JOHN BOONE NOW AT FLORIDA"]
3. RICHARD


Now I have always had a hard time excepting that JOHN BOONE OF THE CLIFFS was at FLORIDA. In 1686 JOHN BOONE OF THE CLIFFS WAS IN MARYLAND.

RUTHERFORD'S own words:
The Boone family of Taunton, County Somerset, England, in all PROBABILITY was the progenitor family of the Boones of Calvert Co., Maryland.
Then he goes on to say:
Records indicate that it was his son, John, born 27 Dec 1645 in All Hallow's Staining Parish in London, who came to Maryland and settled at The Cliffs.

But he, Rutherford doesn't give the records. And he then says that JOHN BOONE OF THE CLIFFS IS THE COUSIN IN FLORIDA. I couldn't buy it.

So now in my current research, I come upon a book FAIR WERE THEIR DREAMS, by MARY COLE FARROW LONG. And the family that are descendants of ANDREW BOHUN OF DIPFORD as presented by Berk's and Rutherford [above] are found in this MRS. LONGS book as THE CHILDREN of HENRY THE BUTCHER, OF DARTMOUTH.
And her "MAIN ANCESTOR" she is writing about is JOHN BOONE OF BOONE HALL PLANTATION, OF SOUTH CAROLINA. THIS JOHN BOONE OF BOONE HALL PLANTATION according to Mrs. Long IS THE "COUSIN JOHN BOONE AT FLORIDA".
This JOHN BOONE is the SOUTH CAROLINA IMMIGRANT WHO FOUNDED THE BOONE HALL PLANTATION.

JOHN BOONE II [ROMAN NUMERAL INDICATES GENERATION, HENRY I'ST] another son of Henry Boone I, butcher of Dartmouth, is the member of the Second Generation whom descendants are the subject of FAIR WERE THEIR DREAMS. In the Taunton, Somerset Original Register, a John Boone is listed as marrying Mary Audrie of Taunton, County Somerset on 26 Nov 1629. No will exists for this John Boone; so the assumption has been made that this is the same John Boone referred to in the will of Thomas Boone II of Mount Boone when he refers to a brother, John. John Boone II and Mary Audrie were the parents of three daus and two sons, one of whom, John III of Boone Hall Plantation, arrived from Barbados with the "first ffleet' of immigrants in Mar 1670 at the Port Royal area of South Carolina. The second son, Thomas III, became a merchant in London and married Sarah Finch.

Mrs. Long in her book on page 4 is saying; according to research by Dubrett Ancestry Research,
HENRY I, THE BUTCHER SONS ARE:
1. CHRISTOPHER II, OF LEE PLACE [whose will referred to "cousin John at Florida".]
2. JOHN II,
Sons: THOMAS III, MARRIED SARAH FINCH
JOHN III, OF BOONE HALL PLANTATION, OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
[THE JOHN BOONE referred to as "cousin JOHN BOONE IN FLORIDA"]
3. THOMAS II, OF MOUNT BOONE, THAT MARRIED DOROTHY UPTON, and he executed the Will of his father HENRY THE BUTCHER.

I believe that the JOHN BOONE OF FLORIDA IS MRS. LONGS ANCESTOR THAT CAN BE FOUND IN FLORIDA during this time frame. NOT JOHN BOONE OF THE CLIFFS, OF CALVERT CO., MD.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not endorsing MRS. LONGS research. I have not read her complete book, so I don't know her sources for her findings. I will continue to research it when I can get a copy of her book.

But my main reason for passing on this info, is, I for one don't want to connect up to someone that is truly not MY ANCESTOR. I want to know the true background of JOHN BOONE OF THE CLIFFS, my ancestor.
I realize this is going to throw alot of you, but I'm open to anything you have that you feel shows JOHN BOONE OF THE CLIFFS IS THE JOHN BOONE OF FLORIDA.
