The Nicholas Mills to which you refer married Winifred Van Reswick (daughter
of Thomas Van Reswick and Ann Carberry). Winifred married first, Philip
Greenwell (d. 1774) and then she m. Nicholas Mills, 10/15/1775.
Here's a couple of pieces of documentation:
John Steel (who married Ann, sister of Winifred) was one of the appraisers
of the estate of Henry Shercliffe (who married Mary, sister of Winifred).
The will of Philip Greenwell in 1774 mentions a bond due to him by Thomas
Shercliffe (Winifred's nephew). Then Nicholas Mills III, Winifred's second
husband's administration accounts indicate that he and Wilfred Van Reswick
were securities for the admin. of the estate of John Steel by Ann Steel
(sister of Winifred).
Will of Ann Van Reswick, SMC 1/3/1759-3/6/1759. My eight children: John,
Thomas, Elizabeth (Norris), Mary (Shercliffe), Monica (Spink), Ann, Eleanor
and Winifred Van Reswick, 294 lbs., 19 shillings, 6 pence, it being the
balance of my deceased husband's estate. Three youngest daughters (Execs.):
Ann, Eleanor, and Winifred, the remainder of my estate reserving to
themselves three young negroes born since the decease of my husband named
Susanna, Henrietta, and Rodan. Wit: Anthony Roberts, Ignatius Cissell.
8/1785: Petition of Stephen Gough and William Greenwell, securities for
Winifred Greenwell (now Winifred Mills), Exec. of Philip Greenwell who want
counter security. (Orphan Ct. Rec., Fenwick).
9/25/1786: Admin. accts. of Philip Greenwell by Winifred Mills, Exec.
Beneficiaries: Thomas Greenwell; Joseph Greenwell (including balance of
Thomas Shercliffe's bond); Widow, Winifred Mills. Distribution of balance
equally to: Mary Greenwell, Joseph Greenwell. (Balances and
Distributions, Chr. of SM, Spring 1993).
