I guess it is a question as to when George Medcalf
was born. I have ca 1650 so:
IF George Medcalf m Elizabeth Spink, d/o Thomas
(d bef 1695-wife Jane Greenhalgh Spink Watson,
exec-any concrete data as to when Thomas was
born??).
Dau Elizabeth b prior to 1671- (single in the
will of William Hattoft) & John Medcalf, s/o
George & Elizabeth (b bef 1686)- Elizabeth
b ca 1653 (if 18 in 1671). She would have
had time to marry George Medcalf (b ca 1650)
1671 & 1686 (birth of John Medcalf m Mary
Smith, d/o Peter.
Does that make sense?? All we have to work with
is approx birth dates as age is unknown. Approx
mg dates as actual marriage records not found.
Wills certainly doesn't give ages-so impossible to
tell age. Cem records/grave stones not found. So
how can we possibly know when born?? There
isn't a consistant "rule of thumb" for approximating
birth dates when not known. Each researcher
uses different methods of approximating dates. So
it gets to be a big pain!!
IF a marriage date is known- I assume at least 21
unless consent of the father of the man (very
probably underage so consent given). Same
applies to the female in determining age. Use
21 the same way as the man unles consent given
then use 13-21 approximaiton-because women
did marry as early as 13.
What about the Elinor Spink who m Francis
Nevitt?? Any consistant dates for bith?? I have
her as d/o Thomas, too. Birth approx close to
that of Elizabeth. Have not done any research
on the Nevitts at all. Just know that some Nevitts
lived in the area of Athertonville when my Dad
(b 1913) lived there. Knew the Nevitts who owned
the store there. That's my ownly knowledge to
any Nevitts. WAY too late & wrong place!!!
Also I have reference to a Peter Smith Sr & JR.
Years ago- a man in TX- sent me a referance
from MD WIlls- which has been lost over the
years (moving around) + my 1st computer crashed
& I lost all data (had to start from scratch with what
hard copies I still had). So which Peter Smith had
the wife Dorothy??
Mary
