When checking for records about this man, also check for Osbeston and
variant spellings. Below is what I have on him and his family.

1. WILLIAM1 ASBESTONE was born 1625, and died 1681 in St. Michael's Hundred,
St. Mary's Co., MD. He married ELIZABETH GILBERT Bef. 1654 in St. Mary's
Co., MD, daughter of RICHARD GILBERT and ROSE. She was born Bef. 1637, and
died Bef. 1680 in St. Mary's Co., MD.
Notes for WILLIAM ASBESTONE:
William Asbeston was born about 1625, deposing in 1667 as being aged 33. He
gave service to Thomas Allen and after the d. of Allen, he petitioned the
court in 1648 for his freedom inasmuch as he had served his master, Thomas
Allen, seven years by agreement. He deposed in 1658 that about 16 years
before he was a servant of Thomas Orley and that the sd. Orley had sold him

William Asbestone and Thomas Payne witnessed the will of Mark Pheypo, SMC
1/19/1669.
8/30/1672: William Asbestone and Henry Smith witnessed the will of Walter
Waterling, SMC.
Will of Francis Selo, Newtown, SMC 1/7/1674-1/20/1674. To: Son in VA and
Bryan Daley personal estate. Stephen Murty Exec. and residuary legatee. Wit:
Morgan Jones, William Asbestone.
Will of William Albestone, SMC 12/12/1680-2/11/1681. Son, William
plantation. Daughters: Winifred, Isabelle, Rebecca, and Mary sd. plantation
in event of death of son William and personal estate. Exec: Jonothan Biscoe.
Wit: Richard Burgess, Edward Chester, Richard Jones.
He lived in St. Michael's Hundred and owned "Asbestone Oak".

According to Fresco, his wife was Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Robert.
Patented "Asbeston's Oak", 50 ac. in St. Michael's 100, 3/9/1658 which was p
ossessed by John White in 1707 and by Margaret (Cuttler) Plummer in 1738
(Chr. of SM).
His administration accounts (undated, but about 1681); appraisers were
Edward Chester and Thomas Doxey; accts. 8/21/1682 by Richard Atwood, Exec.
(Skinner).
Admin. accts. of William Asbestone 9/11/1686; legatee was Rebecca Asbestone;
Admr., Richard Atwood (Skinner).
He gave a deposition 2/18/1668 re: Barnaby Edloe. At the time, he gave his
age as 43 and was of St. Michael's 100, SMC (MD Chancery Records).
Notes for ELIZABETH GILBERT:
In January 1654/5 Robert Smith made a deed of gift of a red-pied heifer to
his "daughter, Elizabeth Asbestone" and her children and "her husband which
is at present...and if her husband die before her, the said cattle shall be
divided into three parts and my daughter to have one share and the children
two shares". William Asbeston, her husband, gave his receipt and signed his
