Dear folks,

For some time I've been searching for the parents of Thomas Theodore Drury (1818-aft 1870) who married Martha Ann Lydaman in 1846. This family lived in Maryland's 1st election district in southern St. Mary's County. Thomas is listed there in successive census tabulations as Merchant, Constable, and Farmer.

I can find no Drury families in the 1st election district before Thomas except for Cornelius Drury in 1840 and he didn't marry until 1828. Thomas' father in law Andrew Lydaman is also listed in the 1840 census. Therefore Thomas probably met his wife in southern Maryland and remained there after their marriage.

I am assuming a working hypothesis that Thomas' family was one of those in the 3rd election district around Leonardtown. More Drury families lived there than in any other part of the county.

By examining district 3 census records in 1820 two years after Thomas' birth I've narrowed the possibilities to three families who, in 1820, had a male child under five years of age. These are:

Enoch Drury and Eleanor Joy (m. 1815)

Peter Drury and his 2nd wife Ann Hayden (m. 1816)

Joseph Drury and an unknown wife. We can assume Joseph was married since he was listed as head of household and had children. The Census Record also stated he was overseer for Clement Dorsey.

I'm hoping someone on the list will have information that will help to select the correct family or to disprove this theory completely.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support. I hope all of you came through the recent storms unscathed.

Regards,

Don Drury
