In the 1970s Fr. John A. Lyons, a noted genealogist and historian,
transcribed and translated many of the early Kentucky Catholic Church
records, that remained in existence, from Latin to English in many cases and
in some cases just transcribed the Latin. For the most part his work is not
indexed. Among his transcribed records are Holy Mary Church, Calvary,
Washington /Marion County which are the oldest which start in 1808, St.
Rose- Washington County, St. Charles-Marion Co.,, St. Francis Xavier-Marion
Co., St. Vincent DePaul-Nelson, St. Thomas-Nelson, Cathedral of St.
Joseph-Bardstown, Nelson and St. Catherine's-Nelson. These are not all, but
they are the ones I know about.

Fr. Lyon did not copyright his work and copies of his work may be found in
the DAR library in Washington DC, the Filson Club in Louisville, Bellermine
College, Notre Dame and various other places. Some individuals have copies,
not just institutions.

Maybe this will help you to find the data you are seeking closer to where
you live. Hope so.

Judith
