Besides my family building the Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, my extended family had a hand in building Mt. Calvary Methodist Episcopal Church which is in the armpit of route 6 and route 5.
My 3 great grandmother Julianne Smoot (1832) was owned by Theophilus Smoot and Amelia C. Harrison. Julianne married Pvt. Henry Dent (1825), USCT on 11 November 1849 at Trinity Parish Church. Their grandchild William Hanson Dent married Bessie Elizabeth Brooks. Her parents were George A. Brooks and Mary Julia Weems. Mary's brother was Chapman Weems (1848) and John Henry Weems (1856).
Theophilus and Amelia C. Harrison Smoot deed the land for this church to Chapman and John Henry Weems.
Deed JFF r, pp. 138-139 on 1 March 1880
Deed JFF 5, p. 491 on 17 June 1882
EBA 3, p. 356 on 23 October 1903.
Theophilus Smoot received land on August 9, 1856 from the heirs of John Benjamin Dent for $450:
1. Brawner's Risque - 180 acres
2. Cold Wells - 30 acres
3. Woods Deswert - 160 acres
4. Rochester - 100 acres
5. Johnson's Purchase - ? acres
Theophilus Smoot, Amelia Harrison Smoot, Theophilus Harrison (1826) and The Canter Family are buried at All Faith Parish Church, built 1655.
Henry and Julianne's son Addison Dent (1861) was baptized at All Faith Parish on 3 May 1862.
St. Mary's Chapel was authorized by All Faith Parish Church to be used by former slaves
Deed for St. Mary's Chapel - Deed 1883 JFF 6/p. 507 Built 1887.
