Jacke;

The only old cemetery in the area that I know of
lies between Mattingly's Hope and Mt Misery,
the first two grants to the Mattingly Family in St
Marys County circa 1675-80.

Mattingly's Hope liles just a short distance SW of
the Helens Community off Rte 5.

Mt Misery is just N or NNE of Morganze, however,
I have never found a boundary for it.

There is Cemetery in Morganza across the Hiway
from St Josephs Catholic Church; however, I have
never seen any real old markers.

Less than a quarter mile away to the east and north
lies an older cemetery that can be seen from Rte 5,
the Hiway through Morganza. A bulletin board in
the cemetery points out one old grave of a Mattingly,
possibly a Francis????

If you take Route 5 west from Morganza to Helens
and take the Road to the left at Helens that goes
on west and pull into the Catherine Spalding
School parkin area and look South you will see
Mattinglys Hope [aka Friendly Hall built by one
of the Mattingly descendants around 1855,
possibly on the site of the original Mattinglys
Hope that at one time in the early 1700's was
known as 'The Long House of the Mattinglys'
and where mass was held when Catholics
were not allowed to use their Churches - circa
1690-1750. If you have Msgr HEM's book on
the Mattingly family, you may find one site
on Mattinglys Lane down near Clements Isle.
