EARLY FAMILIES OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND VOL. I, Elise Greenup Jordan, 1999,
Willow Bend Books, Westminster, Maryland, p. 59
"John Cissell, a gunsmith, was the earliest known person of the Catholic
Cissell family to settle in Maryland. Birth estimated ca. 1630-1640 of
unknown parents in England; died 1698 in St. Mary's County........He is
believed to have married in St. Mary's County to Mary Shirtcliffe, b. ca
1647; d. after 1707; d/o John Shirtcliffe and Anne Goldsborough."
===================
If this is John Shircliffe, II who immigrated in 1646 and died in 1677 and
married Ann Goldsborough and is the son of John Shircliffe I, transported
1638 & d 1663 who married Ann Spink, it could explain why Mary (Shircliffe)
Mills Dant, his sister held land with the sons of John Cissell: William,
James and Thomas Cissell in 1707. John Cissell having married Mary
Shircliffe, daughter of John Shircliffe II

"3. Poplar Neck--- 200 A surveyed 11/26/1643 for William Brough; held in
1707 by Wlm Cecill, James Cecill, Thos. Cecill, Mary Dant and Tho. Cecill"
From Marcella Dawson 7/25/2002
==============================================================
These records seem to say that this John Shircliffe and (wife?) Ann
Shircliffe died about the same time. Yellow fever?
I have not found distribution accounts to date. Daughter Mary b. ca 1647,
cited above would have been about 30 years old and married. JB
