Hi Tom,
I don't think that Richard Spalding married second, Ammony Taylor. I show
Richard Taylor, Ann "Nancy" Taylor, and Ammony Taylor as the children of
John Bennet Taylor (son of Vincent Taylor and Julianna Clarke) who died
before January 17, 1765 in Anne Arundel Co.
1/17/1765-10/8/1765: Admin. accts. of Bennet Taylor (of SMC), Anne Arundel
Co. NOK: Richard Taylor, Ann Gristy. Admin.: Richard Wathen.
10/31/1765: Admin. accts. of John Bennet Taylor, SMC. Received from:
Philip Key, Esq., Zachariah Bond. Payments to: Richard Farthing, Edward
Mahoney, Bennet Hasard, John Pagan, Wm. Mollihone, Thos. Reddy, Thomas Bond.
Admin.: Richard Wathen. (Admin. accts. of the Prerogative Court of
Maryland, Libers, 52-58, 1764-1768 by V. L. Skinner, Jr.). NOTE: This
record is not on CD #206.
Will of Richard Taylor, SMC, 3/19/1779-4/24/1779. Sister: Nancy Spalding,
one bed and furniture; one chest; one heifer; one ewe; and four lbs., 4
shillings, 4 pence cash. Sister: Ammeny Taylor, one horse colt and six
lbs., 14 shillings, and 4 pence cash. To: John Johnson, all of my land
where Benedict Aprice now lives. Wit: Hezekiah Tippett, Leonard Johnson,
and Peter Johnson. St. Mary's County, Maryland Wills 1776-1791 by Linda
Reno and Joann Humphries).
Will of John Johnson, SMC, 12/2/1780-1/20/1781. Wife: Catherine, the land
where I now live; two negroes named Hendley and John Baptist; all of my hh
furniture as long as she remains single. If she marries, all I have given
her is to be into the hands of my brother, Leonard Johnson and to be kept by
him until my son Thomas Johnson arrives at the age of 21 and then to be
equally divided between my sons Thomas Johnson and Benedict Johnson. To:
Ann SPALDING, wife of Richard Spalding and to her sister, Ammony TAYLOR, the
land where Benedict Aprice now lives at the expiration of seven years for
which Benedict Aprice has an indenture. Mother: Eleanor Johnson, to be
given a sufficient support out of my estate during her life. Brother:
Leonard Johnson, to live on my plantation and find the same number of hands
my wife does and work them together. They are to divide the crop equally
between them at the end of every year until my sons arrive at the age of 21.
They are to make use of my stock of every kind for each of their family's
support until my son, Thomas Johnson arrives at age 21 and at that time the
stock is to be equally divided between my sons, Thomas Johnson and Benedict
Johnson. If wife Catherine is single when my sons arrive at 21, they are to
give her a genteel and plentiful maintenance during her single state of
life. Execs.: Wife, Catherine and brother, Leonard Johnson. Wit: Clement
Power, Joseph Johnson, James Davis, Peter Johnson. NOTE: Widow renounced
will and elected her third. (St. Mary's County, Maryland Wills 1776-1791 by
Linda Reno and Joann Humphries).
2/1786: Admin. accts. of John B. Taylor. Richard Spalding and wife John
Monarch against Richard Wathen, Executor. Benedict Aprice, Peter Johnson
sworn. Determined by the court that the Executor pay to the said Richard
Spalding and wife the balance due them on the estate of John Bennet Taylor,
dec'd after deducting a bed and furniture and to also pay them their parts
of the estate of Richard Taylor. (Orphan Court Rec., Fenwick). Typed as it
appears. Does it mean Richard Wathen and wife and John Monarch? Had John
Monarch married Ammony Taylor?
5/1786: On petition of Joseph Power, Exec. of Richard Wathen, to have a
rehearing on the complaint of Richard Spalding and Leonard Mattingly and
wife against him. Ordered by the court that the sd. matter be heard at the
next Orphan's Court. (Orphan Court Rec., Fenwick).
