Hi Mary

I suspect that you already have the marriage below but you did not mention
it, so here goes.

Washington Co Ky Marriage Records 1792-1878, Margaret Clark Kington

4 Oct 1813 Rhodoph Simms - Eleanor Greenwell, married by Stephen Theo Badin
Bk1-124

Additional record pertaining to Rhody Simms:

The following was found on R.D. McAtee's web site:

"Nelson County Will Abstracts: by J. Estelle Stewart King.

Monarch, John Bernard - will written 26 January 1814, probated 16 May
1814. Wife: Mary, property equally divided among children, [not named]
Exec. Richard Nevitt, Wit. RHODY SIMMS, Matthew Nevitt, Francis Monarch."

"Washington County Kentucky Wills 1792-1853, Faye Sea Sanders, 1987:

Wathen, Sylvester - will written 16 Sep 1803, probated 7 Nov 1803. Leg:
Wife, Sarah - mentions children - unnamed - to be schooled in the
"rule of three." Ex: Father, Jno. Wathen & THEODOLPHUS SYMS. Wit:
John M. Warren, Geo. Thompson, Zach'h Riney. Signed: Sylvester Wathen"

I suspect that "Theodolphus" and "Rhody" may be the same person. Rhody
is probably short for Rhodolphus, and as Mary Ann indicated, "Randolph"
may also be Rhodolphus. I need to look up the handwritten will to see
if "Theo" could be "Rho." Sylvester's spelling may not have been the
best, either. This reference to a "Syms" is the only such spelling of
Simms in that entire 60+ years of will abstracts.

My earliest known Simms ancestor is Sarah Simms Wathen, wife of the
above-mentioned Sylvester Wathen. All I know is that her mother's first
name was Mary. She consented to Sarah's marriage to Sylvester, so I
assume that Sarah's father was deceased before the marriage occurred on
March 7, 1799 (Washington Co., KY). I suspect that
Theodolphus/Rhodolphus Simms was her father's brother or some other
close relation, but I find little about him, either.

If anyone has any other tidbits on Theodolphus, Theophilus (I've also
seen that spelling), Rhody, Rhodolphus, or any other plausible
permutation of this name in either southern MD or in Nelson/Washington
Co., KY, please let me know.

Mary Kraeszig
