Henrietta my great-grandmother and daughter of an U.S Colored Troops Civil War veteran Richard T Medley was born on Nov. 21, 1882. Richard was manumitted to the Army by his owner Dr. Mordecai Jones and served with the 12th New Hampshire Infantry before transferring to Company "C" 2nd New Hampshire Infantry on June 21, 1865. Richard mustered out on Dec.19,1865.
Henrietta's husband,Wlliam Irvin Shuebrooks (b. Jan. 16, 1889 - d. Jan. 1965) the son Samuel Webster Shoebrooks, Sr and Celestine "Lessie"(nee Biscoe) Shuebrooks (b.Mar. 5, 1859 -d.Dec. 7, 1955)
According to the St Mary's County Beacon (Oct. 11, 1888, v49:408p3,c3),Samuel W. Shoebrooks, Sr. was a registered voter in the county. I believe most of the Shoebrooks (regardless of the spelling) in the county are descendants of this Samuel. I'm still searching for more information about the Shoebrooks' in St. Mary's County. Things like who Samuel's
parents were, did he have any siblings, was he himself a slave or a free man and most of all where did he come from. I think it was either Caroline or Talbot counties. I have not seen neither a birth or death for Samuel,Sr.
