Subject: ANN NEALE AND RAPHAEL NEALE, PYE FAMILY

ANN NEALE and RAPHAEL NEALE appear in multiple documents of the PYE family.
Does anyone have evidence of the connection?

Will of ANN PYE, written 5 Mar 1770, proved 3 June 1773, Charles Co., Md. (
various bequests including) slaves in possession of "Mr. NEALE" to "my
sister Mary Pye", Ann's wearing apparel to MRS ANN NEALE. One of witnesses:
RAPHAEL NEALE

Will of JOHN PYE, 1772 Charles Co, those named as substitute Executors in
the event that his widow, HENRIETTA PYE and WALTER PYE did not survive were:
Walter Neale and RAPHAEL NEALE. Substitute Guardians to his children:
Walter Neale and RAPHAEL NEALE. (Walter Neale was apparently the son of James
Neale {d. 1761} and wife Elizabeth {possibly a Pye?} Walter was born ca 1753
so was not quite of age, but only a "future" substitute as guardian.)

"Next of kin" on inventory (1772) of JOHN PYE were: ANN NEALE and RAPHAEL
NEALE.

Security for some of the Accounts of the John Pye estate included: RAPHAEL
NEALE and Thomas Semmes.

Estate of HENRIETTA PYE, 1775 Charles Co (widow of above JOHN PYE).
Next of kin on inventory: ANNE NEALE, MARY PYE.
(Note: Mary Pye was apparently Henrietta's spinster sister (d 1782); both
were sisters to above Ann PYE, d 1773. All three were daughter's of Walter
and Margaret Pye. Henrietta was a cousin of her husband, John Pye.)

Will of RAPHAEL NEALE, written 5 May 1784, proved Charles Co., was witnessed
by CHARLES PYE, WALTER PYE, and Thomas Semmes.

Raphael Neale was apparently the son of William and Ann Neale of Port
Tobacco. At least it was he who wrote the will in 1784 mentioned above. Raphael
had a sister, Ann, but she was already a nun in France when the above
documents were written. Raphael's mother, Mrs. Anne Neale, survived until 1785.
She was of the same generation as John and Henrietta Pye. She was obviously
not Henrietta's sister who was a spinster and whose will is mentioned above.
Was it she who was "Nearest of Kin" to both John Pye and his wife/cousin,
Henrietta Pye?

Mrs. Ann Neale (wife of William Neale of Port Tobacco) is usually said to
have been a Brooke. She is normally said to be a daughter of Leonard Brooke
and Ann (Boarman) Brooke (Leonard died 1718 in St. Mary's Co), but that does
not work. Was she the daughter of another Brooke or was she not a Brooke at
all? What are the sources of the claim that she was a Brooke?
