Subject: "Maryland Catholics to Kentucky" ?
Date: Sun, 25 Sep 2005 08:37:31 -0400
Informational question.
Quite a mess recently surfaced on Dutch-Colonies-L on the gender and religious restrictions for membership in various genealogical/lineage organizations. One lister, a lapsed Roman Catholic, could not join the Huguenot group - although his ancestors were Huguenots - because he was/had been a Roman Catholic - although a lapsed one.
My question:
Could a currently non-Roman Catholic descendant of the Catholic migration from Southern Maryland to Kentucky join the "Catholics to Kentucky" group. Is there a current day religious test ? or is that type of test a thing of the past ? [Let's hope so !]
I suppose the persecution of the French Protestants by the Bourbon kings is a major part of both French and Huguenot history, but its use as a membership test today seems odd.
Anyway, what's what on the Maryland-Kentucky group ?
Thanks.
David
