I have Hammersley in my family tree, but I haven't traced them back to the same William. The names in my family are the same but they don' t date back that far. I have Margaret Hammersley (1830-4/13/1864) m. Washington Posey. Her father was Francis Hammersley Pile. He changed his last name because of an inheritance from Henry Pile I think. He had to change his name to receive the inheritance. His parents were William Hammersley and Margaret Brent Neale. They married abt. 1807. Francis also had sisters named Eleanor and Margaret. I know these people are a little late for you, but maybe they will give you another trail to follow to your William Hammersley.
