Larry,
I have been looking for ANY Stephen Jones who could have been the son of
Ambrose and Catherine Collins Jones but so far Stephen born in St. Mary's
Co., MD is the nearest I can find. I do admit when we started working on
these Jones I was doubtful if Stephen was a son of Ambrose of NC. The
descendants of Ambrose (son of Ambrose and Catherine Collins Jones) here in
KY have their line pretty well documented. That is the one that connects to
my McDaniel family in KY. I really think your and my husband's Stephen
Jones was a brother to Ambrose Jones who is buried in Morgan Co., KY. The
DAR placed a R.W. marker on his grave a few years ago. Strange...he ended
up in Morgan (which is partly in present day Elliott County) and some of
Stephen's descendants ended up in joining county.... present day Carter Co.,
KY. I really have a time trying to sort the Jones out around here as to
which ancestor their line goes back.
Take care and let me know when you plan to be in KY so we can arrange for
them to set the CW stone for Stephen Jones, Jr.
