My apologies to Jackie King and the list. I now think Jackie is
right. First off I can't find any real proof in my files for my
saying that Robert Cole's mother was Jane Hanckes(Hancks). I don't
even know where I got that originally. Second, it seems to me that
Todd Whitesides has it right in what appears to be careful research.

I append a section of that below:
"The connection between Robert Cole and Benjamin Gill was that Cole's mother
and Gill's wife were sisters, both being daughters of Oliver Mainwaring (d.
testate 1631) of Windleshaw (in Prescot), Lancashire and his wife Margaret
Torbock. Jane Mainwaring had married by 1615 to Thomas Cole, yeoman, of Heston,
a younger son of Robert Cole (d. 1614-15) of Heston and his wife Alice.
Mary Mainwaring had married by 1622 to Benjamin Gill, chandler, of St. Andrew
Holborn, London. In 1622 Benjamin Gill, his wife Mary, and Jane wife of Thomas
Cole appeared on the same roll as convicted recusants in Middlesex.
The royal ancestry for these individuals through their mother and
grandmother Margaret Torbock can be followed in Mr. Douglas
Richardson's Plantagenet
Ancestry (2004), pp. 490-491."
To avoid possible confusion note that the Robert Cole (d. 1614-15)
above is our Robert's grandfather. So this account, which appears to
be solid, has Jane Mainwaring as Robert Cole's mother. If anyone has
firm evidence for Jane Hancks case I'd appreciate seeing it.
Cheers, Pete
