Subject: [MDSTMARY] John Aaron Spalding of SMCo MD & KY
Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2007 09:40:19 -0400
Hello - Since I've had a Spalding web page on the net for a few years, I've rec'd some email from descendants of the three brothers: Bennett, John Aaron, and Moses Clarke Spalding. I'd like to post some of these in the interest of those currently asking questions about John Aaron Spalding and family's use of two given names. Since some of the mail was rec'd a few yrs. back, addys may be outdated. Pat Doster

Subject: John Aaron Spading, Soldier
There are quite a few Aaron Spaldings in the wood pile.
John Aaron the soldier had two sons with the name Aaron: 1) James Aaron Spalding b 1788, and 2) Benjamin Aaron Spalding b 1798.
To make matters more complicated the one son James Aaron Spalding had a son he named James Aaron Spalding b 1828. I know that John
Aaron lived and died in Washington Co Ky, and that his son James Aaron Spalding (1) also did the same. Benjamin Aaron Spalding (2) moved to Ralls Co Mo. in 1829 and lived and died there.I am not sure what
happened to James Aarons son the other James Aaron Spalding. My ancestory goes through the James Aaron Spalding (1) son of John Aaron Spalding and one of his other sons Charles Green Spalding who moved to Monroe Co. Mo. and later to Kansas where he was murdered. Fortunately
he did have a son Charles Vincent who carried on the blood line. He is my great, great grandfather.
JAS was wounded twice according to some records I have seen, and based on his pension papers. He was able to survive the war I believe because he was in the artillery. The guns stayed in back of the fighting to
fire their shells, away from rifle shot. However, if an artillery shell had landed close enought it could have been a diffrent story and family geneology. Kathleen Yates and her brother are a close distant relation of mine and they have done a wonderful job of researching our family tree. He is retired from the Navy and has spent his spare time along with Kathleen doing this research. John Aaron is buried either in a lost grave yard in New Market Ky. or I believe in the Catholic Cemetery of Holy Mary Church at Calvary Ky. I base my beliefs on the fact that most of his family are buried there and that was his church. I have not been able to find a stone but thats not improbable based on the time that has passed. The church burial records were destroyed in a fire many years ago. But since so many of the existig stones bear his decendants names I do believe he is buried there.

I descend from John Aaron through his son, Benjamin Aaron. If there are not many records proving the link to John Aaron from Benjamin, what can I use for DAR application. Do I have to get source documents for all of the spouses along the way? If so, do I need birth, and death records on them also? Lisa Volm

Pat, I had archived an old message about the family. I don't know if this
will help but it may help to contact other interested researchers.
