Bob,
I have the Mary Dant born 14 Jun 1798 who married Samuel WILLETT 18 Mar 1818
Bardstown, Nelson, Kentucky as the daughter of Joseph Francis Xavior DANT
and Martha SHIRTCLIFFE. Not sure if this date of birth for Mary Dant is
correct.
Nelson Co Ky Marriages, NCGR 1817-1832
Samuel Willett & Mary Dant
Bond: 27 Mar 1818 M: 31 Mar 1818
Thomas Dant signed bond
Consent in person: Thomas Dant, brother of Mary Dant, her next friend
Married by J P Lapsley, from marriage register
I'm not sure why the marriage record states Consent in person: Thomas Dant,
brother of Mary Dant, her next friend. Why would her brother be called her
next friend?
Samuel WILLETT was the son of George E. WILLETT and Elizabeth SANDERS
The Mary Dant born 1795 who married Lewis Dant 13 Feb 1810 , Nelson,
Kentucky. I show Lewis Hayden as born 21 Jul 1792, which means he was 18
when he married. Lewis Hayden the son of Basil Hayden and Henrietta Cole.
Mary Dant the daughter of Joseph Dant and Elizabeth Belinda SHERTCLIFF
According to my records Mary Shercliffe was born bef. 1787 to young to have
married the same Lewis Hayden born 21 Jul 1792
I do not show Lewis HAYDEN as born on Aug 20, 1796
I think there is another Lewis Hayden who married Mary Shercliffe daughter
of Thomas Shercliffe and Elizabeth MATTINGLY

Linda,
It is not an easy one to figure. From an earlier chart you sent, I show
that the Charles Dant that died in Nelson Co, KY sometime before Aug 13,
1804
married a Mary Ann Unknown bef 1778. So she must have been born bef 1760
plus
or minus a year or two so we can rule her out as having married Lewis
Hayden
as a second husband. The Mary Dant that married Lewis Hayden in 1810 died
in
1879 and in 1870 was living with her son Raymond in Nelson Co, KY listed as
age 75. Her tombstone listing in St Joseph Cemetery says b. 1795 died May
10,
1879.
But lets go wild for a moment and go in another direction maybe just to
rule
out a possibility.. Martha Mary Shercliffe, daughter of Thomas Shercliffe
and Elizabeth Mattingly married Joseph Francis Dant and he died abt 1812,
I'm
not real firm on that date maybe it was earlier. They had a daughter Mary
Dant b. June 14, 1798 in MD but I'm not firm on that date either. Maybe
this is
the Mary Dant that married Lewis Hayden and she also had a father named
Joseph Dant as the Nelson Co marriage says and somehow her mother Mary
Shercliffe
gets mixed up in the telling. Surely Martha Mary did not marry Lewis
Hayden,
since if you see below he was probably too young to get married anyway and
if
he married Martha Mary Shercliffe Dant, it is almost like marrying your
mother. I currently show that this Mary Dant, daughter of Martha Mary
Sherliffe
and Joseph Francis Dant married Samuel Willett in Nelson co on Mar 27,
1818,
she had a father named Joseph Dant. Then the Mary Dant that I show
married
Lewis Hayden in Nelson Co, on Feb 5, 1810 (or Washington Co on Feb 13,
1810)
with the father named Joseph Dant might have married Samuel Willet and
moved
with him to Union Co, KY and died June 29, 1875 in Union Co, KY and is
buried
in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Other than the marriage record, I have
no
proof of which Mary Dant is which other than a 2 or three year spread in
age.
There's a number of things wrong with this scenario, one being the Mary
Dant, daughter of Joseph Francis Dant and Martha Mary Shercliffe was
supposedly
born in 1798 and that makes her 12 when she married Lewis Hayden in 1810.
But
that date could be off a few years. After all Mary Dant who we show
married
to Lewis Hayden in 1810 would have only been 15 if she was born in 1795 as
we currently show.
I still believe we have it right as it stands but somehow it still bothers
me with this mystery Mary Shercliffe that married Lewis Hayden. When you
think about it, if Lewis Hayden was born on Aug 20, 1796 as I currently
show,
then he was not even 14 when he married Mary Dant. But while I show him
buried
with Mary in St Joseph Cemetery, I find no listing in the St Joseph
Cemetery
listing I have for him, not sure of the source for his burial there. But
when I look at the Cathedral of St Joseph Baptismal, Marriage and death
records
I have from 1823 to 1861, in the deaths, years 1845 to 1850 are missing,
Lewis died 1849. On the 1830 Nelson Co, KY, Lewis is listed in the age
category
of 30 to 40 as was the older female in the household.
One more fact to add, from Judith Burger in 2005 in an e-mail to both of us
she sent info she received from Mary Ann Shoemaker, which was data from
the
Basil and Henrietta Cole Hayden Bible that lists the birth date of their son
Louis Hayden as July 21, 1792. Their is no mention of any marriage for Louis
Hayden in this bible data sent to me. I like this date a lot better.

The actual date of the deed was 1819, although that doesn't make this whole
situation any better.
I agree that there was probably not another Lewis Hayden around and no one
seems to be able to find a marriage license for Lewis Hayden to Mary
Shercliffe.
I'm thinking at this point that "perhaps" Mary Shercliffe m. first,
____Dant
and second, Lewis Hayden.
For instance, Charles Dant, d. 1804 in KY had a wife named Mary Ann.
