Jerry,
Susanna Mills married first, Zachariah Newton; second, Bennet French, and
third, Michael Raley. We'd talked about her before, but didn't have a
maiden name.
Susanna Shanks, daughter of John, was married to a Newton but it wasn't
Ignatius. As you'll notice, the will of John Shanks leaves "St. Oswald's"
to Susanna and at her death it was to go to her daughter Elizabeth Newton.
These people never left St. Mary's County. Elizabeth Newton married
Zephaniah Graves in 1807 and I have deeds showing them selling part of the
property in 1811, meaning Susanna was already dead by then.

Linda Reno,
I know you will be working on this but according to my data if Susanna
Shanks married John MILLS then their daughter Susanna Mills married a
? NEWTON
And to make things more interesting we have a Susanna SHANKS daughter
of John SHANKS also marrying a ? NEWTON
So did Susanna MILLS (daughter of John MILLS and Susanna SHANKS) marry
Ignatius NEWTON? is she the one who died 1823 in Marion County, KY?
Jerry,
Susanna Shanks was married to a Newton, but it wasn't Ignatius.
Whoever she married was dead prior to the will of John Shanks,
Susanna's father:
Will of John Shanks, Sr., SMC, 9/22/1796-2/6/1798. Daughter: Susanna
Newton, the land where I live being part of "St. Oswald's," 100
acres.
Daughter: Honour Shanks, to have maintenance during her life and, if
Susanna Newton should marry and it doesn't suit Honour to live with
her, Susanna is to pay Honour 15 shillings per year as long as
Honour lives.
Granddaughter: Elizabeth Newton, "St. Oswald's," 100 acres, after the
death of my daughter, Susanna Newton. If she dies without heirs, to my
daughter, Honour Shanks. Granddaughter: Mary Shanks, living in Kentucky,
five shillings currency. Daughters: Susanna Newton and Honour Shanks, my
personal estate equally divided. Exec: Daughters, Susanna Newton and
Honor Shanks. Wit: Obediah Nelson, Martin French, and Sarah French.
Susanna herself was deceased by 1811 when her daughter Elizabeth
(Newton) Graves and her husband, Zepheniah Graves (married 21 Aug
1807) sold "St.
Oswald's."
Deed from Zepheniah Graves and his wife, Elizabeth to Benjamin Tippett
for "St. Oswald's", 28 3/4 ac., 2/25/1811.
