Good afternoon....I received the following information this morning on the
FAWVER name in the Washington County, MD area....
<<<<MGSB, Vol. 5, No. 4, November 1964, "Queries"
AN OLD WASHINGTON COUNTY, MARYLAND CEMETARY RECORDS.
A cemetary, now partially overgrown, is located near Cresap's Trail,
approximately
500 yards from the Potomac river, within the confines of Camp Lily A.
Straus, Washington Co., Maryland. There are approximately 20 marked graves,
all but a few of which lack inscriptions. According to local tradition, this
cemetary contains the bodies of men who were killed in fights and accidents
while engaged in the construction of the Cesapeake and Ohio Canal.
The following inscriptions are still readable:
3. "16 August 1834, D.C., E. x FAWVER x aged 13 y">>>
Does anyone know what area this would be in? What the closest town would be?
Is there some area that I could be looking for this family? My ggrandfather
was born about 1815-16 in this area. This is my first solid evidence of the
family being in Maryland, and with the spelling the way we spell in now.
Thanks for any help or information that you may be able to share with me.
Jacqueline
