While we are on the Ogle Co migration I have a mystery.
John M. Newcomer (son of Joel Newcomer and Elizabeth Funk) of Beaver Creek
was last found (in my search) at his home in Boonesboro, in February 1868.
His widow, Elizabeth KEEDY remarried in Ogle Co ILL to Joel R. Carll on 7
March 1872. Elizabeths parents (Jacob KEEDY and Susannah Maysilles) had
moved to Ogle Co. in July 1869. What happened to John M. Newcomer???
He is apparently not buried in Washington Co., his ancestors are buried at
Beaver Creek.
There was a story that my grandfather told. sometimes I think he made
things up, but anyway, according to him this ancestor of his was a very
stout man..and somewhere (maybe on the way out west) he and a group were
walking along railroad tracks. They were in a tunnel (or on a bridge) when
the train came through.. and that was the end of the stout man..others
escaped injury by crowding up against the side of the tunnel/wall? Anyway
the only person who it seems he could of been talking about was John M.
Newcomer, but I have not been able to find that out as a fact.. Any ideas
out there???
My very hard to research family in Washington County are the STERLINGs
(Also spelled STARLING) that seemed to inhabit the area around Williamsport
from ca 1800 or before owward..
