Dear Ms. Hepfer:
After sending the last email to the Washington County, Maryland LIST, I was reading again in John W. Schieldt's book, MOUNT AIRY THE GROVE HOMEPLACE, and on page 59 I find this under credits:
I RODE WITH STONEWALL by Henry Kyd Douglas, Chapel Hill, 1940. "The Blackford's who lived at Ferry Hill were neighbors of the Groves and Henry's father (Henry Kyd Douglas, the author) served as pastor of the German Reformed Church in Sharpsburg".
My revolutionary ancestor, Jacob Groff (Grove) is buried in the Reformed Church Cemetery in Sharpsburg. Which by the way is in such sad shape. It is between the fire station and a trailer court and most of the monuments have been broken and are in a pile. When I wrote the City Council they said that the Church owned the property and there was nothing they could do. I sent $50.00 to the Church and asked if a fence could be installed or something to protect the cemetery. They replied they simply did not have the money but would use the $50.00 to cut the grass.
I have ventured far a field. Sorry. If Kim Hepfer still has the photo with Miss Louise Grove's name on the back, please email me as I would like to purchase it.
Thank you all for your kind gift of time.
Regards,
Margaret Grove Driskill
