Hello, Larry...
"Feelers" have been put out for Mary BRANTNER at the Blair, Huntingdon
and Chester lists. No takers so far. I also went to WorldConnect to
look for the surname SWOPE and found over 11,000 of them scattered from
central PA to VA and beyond.
Another researcher and I are speculating that
the John G. BRANTNER found in the 1840
Chester County, PA census may be the father or other relative of John
and George BRANTNER, both born in 1801. Mary could be a sister or
cousin to John, who describes herself as housekeeper in the 1870 census.
There's no proof of marriage so far, and by 1880 John is living with his
second eldest son, George. Mary isn't mentioned. These families can be
surefire mysteries! I have three grandfathers in a row named John.
About the surname spelling. The individuals I've come across spell
their names COFFMAN
but I have more research to do. Will keep you posted.
Pam
Genealogy... Collecting dead relatives and occasionally a live
cousin...well, maybe!
