Alice,
That's a hard one to answer, not knowing how much you expect to find there.
The wills and estate papers are pretty easy to find at the courthouse, so I
would guess a day or just half a day there would be enough for almost anyone
who knows what they are looking for. By the way, the indexes for wills and
estates and naturalizations are also at the library, so you can look them up
there and come to the courthouse prepared. You must go to the courthouse on
a week day.

The time you spend at the library will really be dependant upon how many
family members you have to look up. My husband's family was there for
generations, so I frequently spend whole mornings or afternoons there and
wish I had more time. (I also like to spend time with the LIVING relatives
while I am there! ;-) You could probably spend two days there between the
main library and the Western Maryland Room if you have several generations
or families to research.

As to hotels, I cannot tell you. I don't live there anymore and when I visit
I stay with my parents or my in-laws. There are several hotels along Rte. 40
(Dual Highway) just east of town that are not far from the library,
courthouse and Miller House, but I've never stayed in any of them.

Dory
