This should give you some sorting information at least on this family.

Nov. 16, 1824
"Died early yesterday morning at house of John Gruber, senior, editor of
the German paper in this town, Mrs. Christiana Gruber, in the 87th year
of her age." [Is this his mother - see his Dad below]

The Maryland Herald
Oct. 9, 1821
"Died in this town, Thurs last, of a pulmonary complaint, Miss Theresa
Gruber, dau of John Gruber, Printer, in the 23d year of her age." Also
an account in The Torchlight - indicates she was buried in the German
Presby burying ground.

Nov. 4, 1823
"Died Fri night last in the 23d year of her age, Miss Matilda Gruber,
dau of John Gruber; interred in German Reformed burying ground;'
discourse delivered by Rev. J. R. Reilly."

Aug. 17, 1814
"Died Thurs last in this town, Everard Gruber, father of the sen'r
Editor of the German Western Correspondent, in his 79th yr., leaving
wife to whom he had been married 51 yrs; had 10 children of whom 7 were
living; remains interred in the burying ground of the German Reformed
Congregation."

The Maryland Herald
July 15, 1808
"John Gruber, Hagerstown, offers reward for apprentice to printing
business, Robert Moore, about 5 ft 18 inch, about 18 years of age,
light hair."

Earliest reference to John the extractions I own is in 1799 in July -
unclaimed letter at the Hagerstown P. O.

There are two Grubers in the marriage licenses of Frederick County 1778-1810

Nov. 22, 1787 GRUBER, David to MOORE, Susy
Apri. 12, 1806 GRUBER, Elizabeth to MIERHAFFER, John

In Vol II of the Cemetery Records there are Grubers buried in the
Clearspring Mennonite Church Graveyard and in the Boonsboro Cemetery.
In Vol. III there are Grubers buried in the Union Church Graveyard at
State Line, Pa., close to the Maryland State Line.

I don't own the other volumes (total of 7) so there will be more
entries; especially for Hagerstown.
