There are no Lynch entries under the two names you have in my volumes
(II and III). The only John in them is the one you already found in the
Catholic Church cemetery. There are a total of 7 volumes and hopefully
others on the list will look through their volumes for your requests.
The only John in them is the one you already found in the Catholic
Church cemetery. Most of my resources reflect my research date targets
in MD - late 1700's to about 1850.
There are no James Lynch nor John E. Chambers entries in Morrow and
Morrow's Index to Marriage Licenses in Washington County 1799-1860.
There are some John Chambers entries beginning in 1806 and ending in
1826, probably too early to be your canal boatman.
There is an obituary locator by Ridenour that some people on the list
will check for entries on your surnames. You can then work at getting
obits and that may help you find more information.
If you are new to researching Washington County I would suggest that you
invest $13 in George Ely Russell's Washington County Maryland
Genealogical Research Guide. It's available at several online
bookstores including WillowBend. I wish I had found it sooner, it would
have saved me a lot of time. It includes microfilm from Maryland State
Archives and what is available in the LDS History Centers.
I checked both your surnames in the index to Fuller's Family Bible
Records in the Washington County Free Library. They don't have Lynch or
Chambers Bible records other than a couple single entries in someone
else's Bible. There are also some Bible records in the Wash Co
Historical Society Library, but I don't have a listing of them.
There are other folks on the list who have canal boat history in their
families, I hope some of them will chime in now to help you find out
more about any special resources available from them. If you can
receive jpeg files I'll mail you an article offline that you might find
interesting.

> There was a James LYNCH who was a sponsor for confirmation in Clearspring in the late 1850s, this could be the man above or his son. How close is Boonesboro to Clearspring? John E. CHAMBERS was a boatman on the C & O Canal in the 1850s to his death in 1870.

>>I am looking for cemeteries, either Catholic or where Catholics are buried, circa 1870 in Washington County. I know the one in Clearspring behind St. Michael's Church. Some family is buried there. However, are there others where boatmen and their families might have been buried. Family lived in Clearspring and in Green Spring Furnace area from 1850 to approximately 1885. They then moved to Frostburg. We have located the graves in Frostburg.
