I don't - I just see references like this once in awhile - you might
check Scharf's HISTORY OF WESTERN MARYLAND or Williams' county history
to see if there is any mention of it in there. I don't know if there is
a military history published - this piece came from 1812 - possibly
during the War of 1812. When I am looking through the newspapers I see
mustering places and dates posted in the newspapers as well as notices
about deserters. I don't know if the units are Maryland Militia or US
troops - I suspect the former. I have seen other references to ranger
units and they appear to have gone into the wilderness, but I'm not sure
exactly what their purpose was. I hope we have some military buffs on
board who could broaden this discussion - I too would like to learn more
about them.
