Washington Spy (Hagerstown)
May 11, 1791
"John Lee and Eliza his wife and Samuel Hughes, exec of Thomas Simm, Hagerstown, to sell tracts to pay debts of Thomas Simm (several tracts of land are listed).

In 1786 Thomas Sim Lee was chosen as a senate elector. (possibly named after a grandfather?) In 1787 he was one of the examiners who looked at the students from Fred Town Seminary. He was elected to the General Assembly from Frederick County in 1787.

In 1793 Jennet Lee, William's daughter married Benjamin Claggett. William was also named to a public health committee to protect the town from a fever raging in Philadelphia.

William and John Lee are listed as managers along with many others of a lottery for the Lutheran Church. [They raised money to build their buildings in this way.]

Washington Spy
May 2, 1792
William Lee moved to a house formerly occ by Capt. Wiliam Lewis

In 1793 William Lee advertises a purse with money had been left on his counter.

There are Lee references in William's History of Frederick County and Scharf's History of Western MD. Thomas Sim Lee is listed in Scharf, and Governor's of Md. by Buchholz. There are also Lee references as early as 1748 in Rice's book THIS IS THE WAY IT WAS.
Frederick Co - Washington was formed from it in 1776. I don't see much else. I saw an alternative spelling Lea which was from England into MD - the spelling evolved to Lee.

Thank you Lauren, I appreciate your help. By the mid 1780s the family was
in Nelson County KY. I suppose it's possible the father could have stayed
in MD and be in the indexes. The names in KY are JOSIAH, WILLIAM HENRY,
JOHN. I believe the father could have been DAVID.....so any of those names
would surely be appreciated. Thank you so much. Stephanie
