Linda and Lauren,
Obviously that last message was a misfire. Sorry.
As I've mentioned in a separate message to Linda, my wife is one of George
and Matilda's great-great-grandaughters.
Their wedding license is in our family's records. More about this document
later.
First, my wife's line comes down from their daughter Rachel SHANK who
married John G RHODES of Blair County, PA. I'm assuming from Linda's
message that Rachel and Barbara where sisters. Rachel was reportedly born in
1843. She died in 1930 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Altoona, PA.
So my wife's line goes like this:
George SHANK/ Matilda EMMERSON
John G. RHODES / Rachel SHANK
Ellsworth S. JONES / Ella RHODES
<living> JONES / Doris I. GORMAN
My Wife. :)
About the marriage license. George's last name is mispelled as SHACK on the
document. The official date is February 27th, 1841. On the back of the
license is this "[Sol]emnized by me on this the [unreadable] day of March
1841. Ezra Keller, Pastor of the Lutheran church at Hagarstown Md." Under
this there are two names:
[?]haforam (best I can do) Shank
Ephriam Shank
That's what we know.
What we don't know:
- George's and Matilda's ancestry, where they lived, what they might have
done, etc.
- if the mispelled last name (SHACK) might give more information in the
Washington County indices.
- information on George and Matilda's immediate family.
Regards,
Pete Moreau
