Connie,
I checked Vol. VII [also II and III] for you and there is not a Houston in
the volumes - hopefully others on the list will check the other volumes.
Hopefully something will turn up for you. I would also check neighboring
counties.

much the same problem as does Shelby. I know that my gg-grandfather Lewis
Houston was wounded at the Battle of Antietam and died Oct 4 from those
wounds. His Civil War records say he died "near Sharpsburg", but I have not
been able to locate a burial location for him either. He does not appear in
the Antietam National Cemetery records and I know that he his body was not
sent back to Indiana for burial. There was something in a pension file that
suggested that he was buried near Harper's Ferry, but that is not in his CW
file -- it clearly states that his death occurred near Sharpsburg.
If anyone can help locate his grave, I too would be most appreciative.
Thanks,
Connie

Give us a name and someone on the list will search the cemetery books that
were published for Washington County.

His name is not listed as a casualty by the National Parks Department, and I
am sure that his body was not sent home. There is of course the possibility
that he was buried in a mass grave however, we have a letter from a good
friend of his who visited him at the field hospital prior to his death. So
his name was known....

My question is: are there cemeteries outside of the national battlefield
where my ancestor may be buried?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Shelby
