Thanks so much. I did GOOGLE but only came up with a map site which gave us Rt. 56. We connected up with it on our last trip down but could not find any signs or other ID for the township. Will check out the sites you mentioned.

Evidently Green Spring Furnace was first constructed in 1765 by Launcelot
Jacques and Thomas Johnson as reported on page 206 of "The C & O Canal
Companion" (via books.google.com). Green Spring Furnace, Washington County is
located at latitudes and longitudes of 39.372N and 77.5829W (See google for green
spring furnace where there are many sites giving this data). Green Spring
Furnance is located on Big Pool Road (Rte 56) according to the local map
