Thanks, Bob! I've seen some of this info before but appreciate your response. My grandfather, George William "Will" Payne and his brother, "James "Carl" Payne, are buried in the same cemetery in Onancock, VA. My mother remembers her Grandmother Payne being called "Annie" so perhaps she was an "Elizabeth Ann" or something. Maude Camper Payne is buried next to my mother's "Uncle Carl" in Onancock. Some of the difficulty in finding records of my grandfather may be because his birth (1888) was during the time period that Worcester Co. records were destroyed, according to my notes taken from a meeting with John Jacob years ago.
