From of Pension files Cudger Purnell the "Record and Pension Office, War Department, WASHINGTON" dated Oct 20, 1900 reports "Cudgy W Purnell also found as Cudgy Purnell C.C 30th U.S. Col. Inf. the military records furnish th following information additional to the in closed report of Sept.23, 1883.
Born in Charles, Md
Age 18, Occupation -Laborer, Eyes & Hair Black, Complexion Griffe, Height 5ft 10 in.
He was free April 19, 1861
Nor found as Cudger Purnell
On the backside it reads " Medical Records that have been indexed......show the followng addition information ....Cudjo Wilson, Prvt. Co. C 30 U.S.C.T., Wounded Oct 27, 1864, at the battle of Hatchie Run, VA. Nothing additional found.

The name was later rectified in the Pension Records to read Cudger Purnell.
